First impressions from 2.4 seem typical.
First impressions from 2.4 seem typical.
1) Lost my keybindings. Restoring from backup didn't work.
2) I suddenly got mails from EDSM with achievements. Wow ;)
I've redone most of the bindings and now edrefcard works for me. It didn't pre-2.4 with my Dual Shock 4.
EDSM rocks (with the help of E:D Market Connector, I'm sure).
So to sum up. Community saves the day again after a very underwhelming upgrade. I'll be playing like the rest, but I can't help wondering when I can do some flying in atmospheric planet, over a water world, or even below the surface in a amphibious craft.
It'll be nice to finally see the defender, but I'm guessing we'll have to sit through the script until that happens. With the focus on ship to ship space war, I'm expecting no announcements for another SRV which would have been nice (and probably not as hard as a new war / campaign).
I guess I'm crabby having to sit through re-doing the controls. Hopefully VoiceAttack still works!

Elite: Dangerous controller bindings are saved in this location on PC/Windows:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings
In there you'll find a number of files ending with ".binds". As of September 2017 the current naming scheme is:
.2.0.binds
That ".2.0" is a version. When there's a major change to the format the game will read in the old format, rework it, and save out to a filename with the new version number. This version number is also referenced on the second line of the file.
If you want to ensure that a game upgrade doesn't wipe your customised bindings then follow this procedure.
1) Find the relevant .binds file. To be sure you're looking at the correct one look at the Options > Controls screen in-game. At the top-right will be the name of the bindings set you're using. Something like "KeyboardMouseOnly" or "Custom".
2) Now make a copy of this file in the same location, changing just the name part to something relevant. I currently use "AthanX56L3DPro.2.0.binds" because I'm using the throttle from a Saitek X56 together with a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro stick (don't ask).
3) Once you've copied and renamed the file you'll need to open it up in a text editor, notepad will suffice. The second line of the file should be something like:
You need to change the PresetName="..." part so your custom name is between the quotes, i.e. mine says:
That's it! Now launch the game and in Options > Controls use the dropdown to select your new truly custom control set. I did this, or the earlier variations on it (didn't used to have to edit the file) since pre-release betas and I've never lost, or had changed, my bindings on a game client upgrade.
Because of that there is one caveat. If there's a new game feature that utilise new control bindings you will not get any set up automatically, you'll have to configure that new feature yourself.
However, neither version worked on the edrefcard site and it seems to pick it up now, although, still not perfectly. Thanks for the tip though!
