About last night.  So I'm relatively new to ED, but spent a huge chuck of my youth on the original Elite on C64, Amiga and later the sequels on PC.  I've been playing for a few days and managed to hook a good mate (Russell) in.  This is a summary of a 3-4 hour session on Boxing day. So Russell accepts a mission to deliver 4t of Personal Weapons to the Eravate System.  He has about 2 hours to do it and so he starts looking for the stuff.  Meanwhile, I'm doing a trade run which is netting me about 7000cr on one trip and then returning to make about 2600cr on the return leg.  I have a hauler with 16t capacity, but he has the the Sidewinder with 4t.  A couple of hours of this and I plan to get a Viper and  do some serious ship upgrades. Being diabetic limits my dessert choices and makes navigating my birthday a minefield. My daughter came to the rescue with a few of these gems.  Sugar free cheesecakes with a crushed nut/almond flour/coconut flour base and lemon, xylitol & cream cheese filling with raspberry or strawberry on top. divine. Thanks Jodie! She made a sugar free chocolate cake as well, but erm, no photographic proof remains.  delicious though! #banting

Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode has sung so many songs that have been the soundtrack of my life.  I listen to Mode nearly everyday and the songwriting of Martin Gore and the production of Daniel Miller/ Flood/ Bomb the Bass/ Alan Wilder, et al have remained consistently at the top of my favourites list. No matter what I'm in the mood for, there is a playlist of many songs that will be fitting, and if not, I have a healthy collection of remixes and alternative takes on songs that I can draw on.  Dave Gahan latterly has started contributing songs to the Mode albums, but his own solo albums are worth a listen.  I've been listening to the Hourglass album a lot lately.  Kingdom is such a stunning track and some of the mixes are ridiculous. Faced with the prospect of learning Java or C# for Android programming, it was a no brainer.  I am maintaining a Java Android App and I hate everything about it compared to other languages I am more comfortable with.  I know everybody has their quirks and prejudices, but having the ability to port my c# code to IOS and Windows with little effort is a great thing. Also having the ability to do this for free using Mono for Android is a bonus.  I was looking forward to investing in AppMethod for my pet projects, but as a developer, their extortionary (!) licenses make it a non-starter. Sadly, the 30 days I spend doing the Appmethod trial were the most productive I have ever been on a Mobile programming evaluation exercise.   The licensing model they employ is just not worth considering. Whenever I try and learn a new tool, I find a nice project which I can use to cut my teeth on. Inspired by a post by Lauren Morgana here's a very different take on never let me down. It's just noise for most people but this version gets me going and pumps some adrenalin into my day. When I listen to it on my phone I imagine people think I'm listening to some jazz or softer. never let me down was the first DM single I bought. It was an orange coloured picture disc which introduced me to Agent Orange, another favourite of mine. Didn't think it would happen, but I finally got used to Depeche Mode's last album Delta Machine.  I guess the music has evolved to the point that it takes me many more listens to get into.  It could be me, but I do think its the production.  Mode are becoming one of those bands that are making every second album much better.  Sorta like the way the Star Trek movies alternate in quality.   Much bigger fan of Ultra & Playing the Angel than the intervening Exciter and Sounds of the Universe.  Delta Machine is not as good as the former 2, but with the help of many listenings and some killer remixes on Soundcloud, I'm enjoying the original album now.  I'm able to queue up the album as a playlist and listen to the whole album without reaching for the next track button and I'm disappointed when it's over.  That's all I need. #depechemode   http://www.billboard.com/articles/review/1554496/depeche-mode-delta-machine-track-by-track-review

Just bought my children's tolerance for another year.  Just fought murderously overloaded ticketing systems to secure tickets to the  annoyingly popular boy band that I don't want to mention in case google starts giving me more g+ posts about in the what's hot feed.

Strange the trips Youtube can take you on.  After the Ebay password leak I was annoyed and changed a bunch of passwords.  After an hour of this I recalled a Chris Rock rant where he says "tired, tired, tired of this sh*t."  I wanted to find the context, but it turned out it was a clip that some people could be offended by, so I left it. It is hilarious, btw.  Anyway, that lead me to Dave Chapelle and I remembered his black klan character and I was so far off the passwords thing, watching Dave & Chris being awesome.  One of the clips linked was to this story about rascism, tolerance set in America.  While I deplore these staged experiments and I know they are deeply flawed, I still watched the whole thing.  I found it an excellent reminder of how good people can be, how ignorant others are, and how some just don't want to get involved.   Due to the editing, I'm pretty sure that many of the people shown came off in worse light than they should, but the people who ma
