So my UNRAID Server has been warning me about an imminent drive failure and last week it happened. One of my 8TB's died. Sadly, although it's well within warranty, the fact that I broke it out of an 3.5" external enclosure voided my warranty. Anyhoo, I took the opportunity to buy 2 more drives and a UPS. We've been having power outages these past 2 weeks, so I decided a UPS was way overdue. I bought a cheap (local) Mecer 2000VA UPS and hooked everything up. Unraid wouldn't see it, but I installed the NUT plugin from the Github Link on this page. https://forums.unraid.net/topic/40690-plug-in-nut-network-ups-tools/ The Plugin had a detect UPS option that worked. All I needed to do was save all the configs and restart the daemon and voila, detected! Another nice bonus was that Unraid could give me the barcode serial of the failed drive so it was dead easy to remove. Sweet! I have a spare drive now for the next failure, so it will be a quick swap out next time. ...

So I decided to give Ark another go. I've played a lot of No Man's Sky and was starting to look at Conan, but just realised that if I'm going to chop trees, I'd rather do it with Dinosaurs running around. I picked up the expansion pass for Ark during a Steam sale or something and for what I paid, I don't think I can complain. If you bought the DLC before they had a Season Pass, I can imagine the outrage, but the Season Pass has been great value with one more expansion still to come. To liven things up, I decided to hit the Aberration map. I had tried it before, but had found it impossibly hard to get started. It's a very different beast to the original maps. Firstly, from what I can see, there are no flying creatures you can tame. It seems almost always dark, but there is a day/night cycle of sorts. There are a lot more dangerous creatures that are very unlike what you might be used to in Ark. Where I am, metal is scarce, so getting to decent weapons/armou...

I hate posting single tracks at a time, so I'm going to take a few minutes and highlight (probably) my favourite track of the album Spirit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZYFy-WiWv4 It's a bonus track on the Deluxe Edition, but most fans have it anyway! The remix is largely instrumental with a few vocal samples, but the percussion and sounds / effects are just killer. I learn to like electronic music with percussion with Prodigy and since Mode now have a permanent drummer, I imagine the mix of machine and human drums is what makes this track stick out for me. Whenever I start listening to a Mode album, I go through this phase of discovering and getting into the tracks as I develop a feel for each one. My favourite track varies over time and I'll come back to the album and realize a I like most of it and love some of the tracks just a bit more than the rest. Today the Worst Crime just won me over. I think it's a combination of the soft vocal and the minimalist arrangement. I got the sense that the vocal married with the subtle backing was so moving. This extract also just resonated with the world. Every now and then a subtle guitar or synth note will punctuate the vocal. I sit and wonder how the song would be without that note. Jazz fans talk about the space between notes, but a band that makes music for 30 years can do it in rock or electronica and I would imagine its true for really talented musicians in every genre. Mmm. With my road I generate planes in code which end up being the road tiles (like scalextric pieces). Sometimes I have the challenge that my player object can't make the ramp between 2 pieces. - > ______o----------- In essence the player gets stuck in the geometry. What could also happen is the diff in steps are such that -- > ______ ____ o-> Player falls through geometry. One of my infrastructure projects at home is an Unraid NAS. I started the trial with unraid and my hardware wasn't suitable, so I should get it back after the trial expires. I will probably ask for an extension! Anyways, I ordered desktop components + notebook RAM. Bought and paid for, my mistake. The vendor just let me know that they think I ordered the wrong RAM and suggested a change (AFTER the fact), but before shipping. There's a slight price adjustment, but no horrific realisation when the delivery happens. I'm really impressed with the service. The past is littered with 100's of started projects and abandoned code. Clearly, I haven't been an 'completionist' or 'achievement unlocked' kind of person in this regard. For years, my ringtone is taken from Commando C64 by Rob Hubbard. It connects me in a very specific way with my memories of that era and encountering computers for the first time. Inspired by Dennis Wronka, let me tell you a cautionary tale about Alpha Rex'es and overzealous idiot friends. Soon after I logged in yesterday, Apex shouted that he needed me to bring all the dino's to kill an Alpha. No problem, I started gathering them, they followed eagerly and while I was organising them I asked. Is it a Raptor or a Carno? In other words, do I need 1 Rex or 2 along with the 2 Allosaurs, 2 Bears, 2 Sabretooth Tigers, 2 Thylacoleo's and 2 Theras. We always tame 2 of each, except for Argy's. No, it's a Rex, he says casually? Are you serious, I'm turning back, says cowardly me. No, we can do it, says Captain Optimistic. What happened next was pure carnage. Thankfully I had not taken all the dino's so I still have a Doedic, Ankly, 2 Argy's and 1 Thera left. Have since managed to tame a single Rex. The worst part of all of this is that we managed to kill the rex with about 30 rifle shots.... And the saddles lost...Quite a few of...

2 Quick tips if you didn't already know. Above the inventory slots is an icon with a down arrow. It will pull items from all containers near you. Sometimes you need more wood. Click the icon, scroll down to wood and pull. Useful! If you need lots of raw meat to be spoiled quickly. Select all the meat in your inventory and do split all. They will all spoil at the same time. Hope this is useful to somebody.

Flying around Ragnarok I found a bunch of metal, so I was feeling pretty good when I returned to my base only to find an Argentavis high overhead. I was pleased as I wouldn't mind taming one as they have higher strength and carry potential.   My excitement was spoiled when it attacked the 2 tame Pteranodons we had recently acquired.  We were in the process of acquiring a second saddle, so only one was flyable.  The 2 Pterry's responded to the attack and the 3 birds swirled higher and higher.  I'd seen this before so I immediately tried to recall them, but they didn't respond to a general call, I eventually had to do a "follow one" to each bird in sequence.  Only the first one responded.  As luck would have it, the one without the saddle.  It looks like my other one killed the Argy and is now flying high above the base.  I hope he decides to land because he didn't respond to any hails from me, way below.  Only option now is to build a large enough building ...

After scouting with the raft, I've found where I want to put a more permanent structure in Ark. Metal/Pearls/Oil/CementingPaste and near the swamp too. Dennis Wronka Go have a look on the flyer ;)
